How to Chargeback Azure Stack Hub Customers with Native Billing Solution

Hybrid IT is the governing IT strategy in the market today. We are eager about using cloud services to optimize our returns.

People who are invested in Azure Stack Hub are looking for the solution to chargeback their customers based on the usage collected in the usage collector. Azure Stack Hub comes with the default usage collector but it doesn’t comes with the billing RP as Azure public cloud.

Azure Stack Hub usage collector collects the usage data (resource used, such as resource name, subscription used, and quantity used) generated by Azure Stack Hub default RPs such as Compute, Storage, and Network at hourly and daily intervals for each subscription and posts the usage data per resource usage.

If you are an Azure Stack Hub operator you can access the stored usage data from Azure Stack Hub resource usage APIs.

How to bill Azure Stack Hub Usages using Azure commerce:

1. In-order to use Azure billing you need to register your Azure Stack Hub instance with Azure.
2. Then Azure Stack Hub is configured to send the usage data to Azure Commerce
3. Once the data is uploaded to Azure, you can access it through the billing portal or by using Azure resource usage APIs

Every time, you need to send the data to Azure and depend on the Azure billing APIs to generate the bills for your Azure Stack Hub Customers. If you are not using the Public Azure, then you will be looking for a native billing solution within Azure Stack Hub to charge/ show back your customers.
